Beskrivelse

The Molting Circus has returned to Well’s Spring. After the circus performance, the town’s residents have gathered to mingle with the troupe, reminiscing on the past and planning for the future. The Stilted House creaks above the well where a god once slept. Excavation rituals are rumbling to life for the first time in years. Tonight will be a night of change - but how much are you willing to leave behind?

This game takes place in a world where gods great and small are found sleeping underground. You might dig up a tiny god while weeding, or a city might invest years mining their way down to a massive buried deity. Half of the players are residents of Well’s Spring: a town once famed for their god of hidden things, now dwindling after the god’s disappearance. The other half are part of the Molting Circus: a troupe traveling with their god of metamorphosis, known for altering themselves to bring their acts past human limits. These two groups are not as separate as they might seem.

The setting of this game draws heavily on horror aesthetics, but this is not a horror game. It’s a social open-ended game about a group of strange yet mundane people in a strange yet mundane world trying to build a future together despite their complicated pasts and differing desires. The mechanics take the form of “rituals” that are gradually unlocked over the course of the game as new gods are unearthed. Many rituals resemble party games that help players flesh out their characters, build their relationships with others, and revisit their shared past.

NPCs are characters with fewer character connections and responsibilities, and may be in charge of keeping track of a simple mechanic in the game. Players playing NPCs are welcome to roleplay and participate in rituals, etc, but this might be a good choice if you want a more low-key experience!

Content Warnings
Body horror: many characters will start with or take on mutations. Player mutations will always be consensual. The descriptions of certain gods and rituals involve distorted anatomy; the most offputting descriptions are marked with a warning symbol.
