Foromtale

You have all gathered, the elligible ladies and gentlemen of Candleford Green, for a night of convivial dancing and gossip, with no ulterior motives whatsoever. Still, it is a truth acknowledged by all that dances lead to understandings.

This larp will recreate the feel of a Jane Austen ball utilizing, in part, the medium of set dancing. Plots will center on romance, class structure, and familial relations. The game takes place during the Napoleonic wars, within the assembly halls (a public dance space) of Candleford Green, a small rural village where everyone knows everyone else. You are predominantly playing the young gentry from the village and nearby estates. As gentry you are the “middle class” of Jane Austen’s novels. You are called Mr. or Miss, do not have titles, but have servants and likely do not engage in manual labor or trade.

All participants will need to participate in relatively sedate dances, which involve touching of the hands and shoulders.

This larp does not have rules governing inter-character conflict and instead uses collaborative resolution. The central plot involves attempting to “match up” and get married, but there are not GM defined ideal pairs. The focus is on creating immersion and there is not a defined “win” condition.

NPC roles as meddling older relations are available and do not require dancing. Whist will be available as an activity for NPCs.
